Free to design · no account needed

From layout to ordered PCB, without leaving the tab.

KLE, Ergogen, KiCad: Moth does the whole path. Place your keys, drop in components, and it routes the board for you. Autorouted, DRC-clean copper and fab-ready files with a 90-day pass.

Pass expires? Your designs and exports stay yours.

Who this is for

Built for hobbyists, not KiCad experts.

Moth is for people who want to build a real, working split keyboard without first learning KiCad. Pick a layout, export routed copper, send it to a fab, done.

Early feedback

We're early. If you already know your way around keyboards or PCBs, we'd genuinely like your feedback: what's missing, what's wrong, what would make this actually useful to you.

How it works

  1. 01

    Design

Lay out your key grid in the browser: any switch mount, any layout.

  2. 02

    Export

Download a real KiCad project: schematic, footprints, and netlist, free. Routed copper and fab-ready files on paid plans.

  3. 03

    Order

Send the Gerbers to a fab, solder it up, and use the keyboard you designed.

Before you start

Questions people actually ask.

What is Moth?
Moth is a split keyboard PCB design tool that runs entirely in your browser: no software to install, no KiCad experience required. Lay out a key grid, pick your switches, and export a real, DRC-clean KiCad project with autorouted copper, Gerbers, a BOM, and a DXF case outline, ready to send straight to a PCB fab.
Is my board checked before I order it?
Every template is verified with KiCad's own DRC in our test suite. Your custom layout gets built-in collision and routing checks. Open the KiCad project and run DRC yourself before you order.
What if I mess up the layout?
Undo/redo covers every edit, and your work autosaves as you go, so there's no way to lose a working layout by accident. Nothing is final until you export.
Can I use my own switches?
Yes. Both solder and hotswap mounts are free to design with. Switch footprints are copied from real KiCad library files, not approximated, so the board matches what you actually ordered.
What do I actually get when I export?
A KiCad project either way: real footprints, real netlist, same geometry whether you have a pass or not. Free ships it unrouted, ready to route yourself. A 90-day pass adds the autorouted copper plus the fab-ready files: Gerbers, drill files, a BOM, and a DXF case outline, ready to send straight to a PCB fab. Every board you export while your pass is active stays downloadable forever, even after it expires.
Who owns the design I export?
You do, completely. The KiCad project and fab files are yours: no license fees, no royalties, no restrictions on building, selling, or modifying what you export. Switch and stabilizer footprints reference the open, community-maintained "kiswitch" KiCad library; the generated project credits it and names exactly which files, so you always know what it's built on.

From the founder

After building my first split keyboard, I felt like I could design my own. Then I actually tried, and found out fast it's way harder than it looks. I'd make a layout, want to swap a footprint, and end up moving every key and rerouting from scratch. Decide I wanted something slightly different, and do it all over again, bouncing between one tool and the next the whole time.

So I thought to myself, shouldn't there be one app that lets you actually iterate on a design? Have an idea, refine it, and just order it.
